RCASA Saturday: What is Sexual Assault?

In Sexual Assault Awareness on August 20, 2011 at 6:10 am
Sexual Violence is

conduct of a sexual nature,

that is non-consensual

and is accomplished through

threat,

coercion,

exploitation,

deceit,

force,

physical incapacitation,

mental incapacitation,

power and/or authority.

Sexual assault isn’t just her problem or his problem. It is OUR problem.  More and more people are beginning to admit that sexual assault has either happened to them personally or to a loved one.  Today’s blog is just a reminder for you to get involved, to join the fight to protect those who can’t protect themselves and empower those who can’t find the voice to speak out.  There are a number of ways to contribute, volunteering, donating money to the cause for products and services, meeting with your legistlator to speak out and speak up.  The laws we have in Virginia do not go far enough to protect the unprotected and punish the perpatrators.  Do you even know what the laws are in your state?  Start there!  If you would like more information about a center in your town you can contact www.rainn.org  for a listing of local centers.

The problem belongs to all of us and we should fight for the health and well-being of those who can’t fight for themselves.
