RCASA Saturday with Case Management: The Death of a Generation, Child Rape (my thoughts)

In Sexual Assault Awareness on August 6, 2011 at 5:00 am

Our children are at risk.  Our nieces, nephews, cousins, grandbabies, neighborhood friends, just about any child is a risk.  Sexual abuse is rampant, morals are at an all time low.  I mean, really it isn’t something new.  Sexual molestation is actually old news.  Children have been victims of sexual abuse for hundreds of years, but the influence of technology has made it that much worse.

child pornography is a big problem.  In fact, I believe the entire scope of the problem is like trying to imagine the entire universe.  I want you to consider that these children who are being video tapped are daughters, sons, nieces, nephews, grandbabies, and neighbors.  They are not robots with no identity and emotion.  They are often exploited by family members, fathers, mothers, mother’s boyfriends, uncles, cousins; my point is that they don’t just decide…mmm, I think I want to try child pornography….I think I want to be brutally raped and then have it recorded then forever engrained in cyber space for strangers to watch over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over….  Who is responsible for these kids???  If not there parents, then who?  Well, I tell you what, you are, I am, the lady down the street is!  People who KNOW this is wrong, we are all responsible!  Children are powerless.  If an young child…and infant is raped, repeatedly raped, their life is forever changed.  Their innocence, their spirit is forever altered! And we are responsible…we are as a nation.  For allowing this to go on.

So according to a CNN report, (http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/08/03/us.child.porn.ring/index.html?hpt=hp_t2), 72 were charged with involvement with an online global child porn ring.  Mind you, just 72…and the reality is that there are hundreds, thousands more out there, undetected.   I want you to get this in your head!  This is real, this is not just a movie or book or something that doesn’t affect you!  It is real, these kids are going to be YOUR future… Part of the report reads:

“In order to become part of the Dreamboard community, prospective members were required to upload pornography portraying children under 12 years of age or younger,” said Attorney General Eric Holder at a Justice Department news conference. “Once given access, the participants had to continually upload images of child sexual abuse in order to maintain membership. The more content they provided, the more content they were allowed to access. Members who created and shared images and videos of themselves molesting children received elevated status and greater access,” he said.

What particularly horrified investigators were “super-hardcore” posts that involved adults having violent sexual intercourse with “very young kids” who were being subjected to both physical and sexual abuse.

Holder said, “Some of the children featured in these images and videos were just infants and in many cases, the children being victimized were in obvious and also intentional pain, even in distress and crying, just as the rules for one area of the bulletin board mandated. They had to be in distress and crying.”

Please see the above link if you would like more information.  Please readers, I beg of you, don’t just sit back and do nothing.  I implore you to do something…go work or volunteer at your local rape crisis center, join a local task force or start one if you don’t have one in your area, lobby your local government, ask your police or sheriff’s department what are doing about this in our community.  It is not a problem that will go away on its own, but it is something we can work towards ending if we all try.  Even if you only reach one victim at a time, you are saving someone from a life of pain and destruction…

  1. Pedophilia scares have always been a cover for something more sinister–homophobia.

One of the nation’s leading gay rights organizations, GLAD, started as a legal organization for defending gay men who had sponsored a sex ring with underaged boys. The queer community organzied and fought back.

Please don’t flame the flames of homophobia.
